Calling All Cooks! We're giving up take out/restaurant meals! Whatever will I do?!

I'm on a search for favorite recipes! I have made a goal for next week NOT to eat out AT ALL (save for a Starbucks run, perhaps) next week until Sunday. My Twitter & Facebook followers all say I can do it! I have to admit, however, that I am a little nervous...

Ideally, we need to be GFCF, but at this point I will start w/ whole foods and minimally processed stuff. For our bread needs we'd buy Food for Life brand items. They make delicious Ezekiel 4:9 bread & tortillas/wraps as well as other sprouted grain items.

I need dinner ideas (I can do leftover lunches!) and breakfast ideas. EASY is great, especially for breakfast. :)

So lay it on me! What are your tried and true family favorites? Leave a couple recipes for me in the comments and I'll try them out over the next week or 2. When we've tried everything, I'll post them all in a nifty new blog post w/ my family's ratings.

Thanks!! :D

My husband's mom died

I guess my title says it all. My husband's mother died in November 2008. It kind of sucks. The woman drove me batty w/ her over-worrying and stuff, but I know she meant well and she loved my kids and me immensely. She did everything she could for us.

She had a heart attack on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. The night of my daughter's first talk. Her first opportunity, at 7 yrs old, to give a bible-based presentation in front of the entire congregation. She did beautifully, too. I was up there w/ her & our friend Jill. It went so well.

But my mind and my husband's mind were both on his dad, his brother, and his mom.

After our daughter's part, we left for the hospital. We told the kids as we were leaving so they weren't taken by surprise.

She had a heart attack that evening, fell into a coma, and never came out of it. Eleven days later she took her last breath w/ my brother-in-law and father-in-law present. My husband and I were finishing an early lunch when we got the call.

The funeral was December 3, 2008, a Wednesday. Our kids were excused from school for the week. We spent it cleaning up the house and organizing for my father-in-law. We've gone back a few times and really enjoyed the congregation. They have been so supportive and helpful. We can't thank them enough.

I guess we've all managed ok. It just feels strange. I'm sad for my kids. They were close with their Memaw. The baby won't remember her. I'm glad to have 2 pictures of her holding him.

A bunch of random thoughts

My son is playing his Nintendo DS while my husband plays the XBox. My daughter and baby are sleeping soundly. I sit here typing, wondering what I will type next.

1) According to my 7 yr old, we are PART WHALE.

Conversation follows:

Yellow Lark: Mom, what did you mean when you said, "We are part Whale"?

Me: Whale?! What? Whale?

Now I remember..... My grandfather's ancestors came from WALES. :roflmao:

2) I'd like to get my part-whale daughter into gymnastics. I'm currently researching cost and location of various facilities.

3) This week we finally receive a diagnosis (or not) for my 7 yr old daughter. We know she has Sensory Processing Disorder and Anxiety. We'll know for sure later this week.

*Update: Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety, Dysgraphia, and possibly ADHD. (Some major signs of it that will come out more as her anxiety decreases.

4) My son is a wonderful and amazing child. The Asperger's Syndrome presents a few challenges from time to time but I know he'll be ok. He and my daughter are so intelligent it astounds me. Often.

5) I need to get Wolf Spider (oldest son) to play w/ other Aspie kids more often -- he had a GREAT day yesterday at my friend's house. Her son also has Asperger's Syndrome. Her son is 13. Both boys had a great time. They're both geniuses and have similar interests. She and I were both very happy to see our sons happy.

6) Yellow Lark played w/ the same neighbor's daughter all weekend and never had an issue. :)

7) The Baby (no Native American name yet) has just been a baby. I greatly enjoy that. I'm in no rush for him to grow up, though he is already 14 months old. He is a treasure, as are his older siblings.

8) I hope my other friend has good success w/ her new guy-friend. :) She's a good person and deserves the best. :)

9) My husband is a really good guy and I'm glad I have him. :)

10) I'm looking forward to many more years w/ my family. :D I just wish I could do it w/o the allergies. lol!
