A Hopefully GFCF Lunch

So it's no secret that I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed with the GFCF adventure. It doesn't help that the whole family has been sick (allergies, most likely) for the past week.

Last night we were feeling well enough to get some grocery items. We forgot cough drops, unfortunately. But I digress. The other day my lovely daughter (now 7 yrs old and very proud of herself!) informed me that she didn't really like PB&J for lunch, even if it was on Ezekiel bread and even if it was using Laura Scudder's natural PB. So last night I bought:
Rice Cakes
sliced sandwich meat
baby carrots
Envirokids PB Bumpers cereal

I think I need to investigate what other sort of names gluten goes by. If it's as prolific as MSG, it can be under seemingly innocuous names like "natural flavor."

But at least we're off to an ok start. It's taking forever for me to jump on the GFCF bandwagon. It's a little difficult to get started w/ all the different flours and stuff that we need for baking. I don't bake a whole lot, but I did promise my girl that I'd make her some GFCF chocolate chip cookies. :)

Anything that has wheat flour has gluten...although it can be listed separately. I know our HEB has put up an endcap of a few GFCF products, but I only know of one family here that's doing it. Not us! lol

Good luck. It's a huge deal, and I hope it pays off as much as Feingold seemed to, back in the day. LOL

Its not as prolific as msg thank goodness!! After a while you will get to know the brands and such that are safe, and if you have to venture into any unkown - read the label! lol time consuming and a pain in the butt when you are there with kids I know!
have you checked this site? heres a list of glutenous foods or ingredients:

is she doing ok with the ezekiel bread? its still gluten isn't it? since it has sprouted wheat??

Here's the list of ingredients that I found for Ezekiel bread: "*Organic Sprouted Wheat, *Organic Sprouted Barley, *Organic Sprouted Millet, Malted Barley, *Organic Sprouted Lentils, *Organic Sprouted Soybeans, *Organic Spelt, Filtered Water, Fresh Yeast, Sea Salt. *Organically grown and processed in accordance with the California organic foods act of 1990."

On this list, the sprouted wheat, sprouted barley, malted barley and the Spelt all contain gluten.

The yeast may have gluten in the Ezekiel bread also, though more likely it's fed corn.
You might want to check out the Allergies forum on MDC. So many of us are GFCF there, it's ridiculous.
